# Lunar Calendar

"대한민국의 공식 달력은 서력이다. 그러나 나이드신 분들은 명절, 생일, 제사 등 뭔가 기념해야 할 날들은 여전히 전통적인 음력을 사용하고 있다"

We officially use the Gregorian calendar in Korea. However, quite a number of senior citizens are more likely to use the Lunar calendar to celebrate their holidays, memorial days and birthdays.

# Introducing 'Cloud Computing'

Hello everyone, today I would like to explain one of the IT terms, 'Cloud Computing' for 5 minutes.

The definition of 'Cloud Computing' is ambiguous and controversial. However it is already planted firmly in our lives.
Therefore, I think it is meaningful to introduce the definition, types, significance and problems of this term.

Let me start with the definition of 'Cloud Computing'. 'Cloud computing' is the way to deliver services rather than technology. Thanks to 'Cloud Computing', service users can lease and use computers or software as much as they need via the Internet at remote places. Meanwhile, Service providers can allocate resources as much as users need automatically, economically and rapidly. We call this way of delivery and necessary technologies for it the 'Cloud Computing'.

Secondly, I will move onto the types of 'Cloud Computing'. The types vary widely. Most popular criterion to classify them is the service delivered via the Internet. For example, We call it IaaS, which stands for 'Infrastructure-as-a-Service' if computers and operating system are leased via the Internet. SaaS, which stands for 'Software-as-a-Service' for prepared application software, and PaaS, which stands for 'Platform-as-a -Service' for environment to develop & operate software by user's own hand.

Thirdly, I will introduce the significance of this in the world. There are various 'Cloud Computing' services such as Dropbox, Evernote, SalesForce.com, AWS of Amazon, App Engine of Google and so on. Using these services, companies and institutions can reduce capital expenditure and pay only operating expense as they actually use. Internet service companies can start its service with minimum investment. A person can use and share his/her data everywhere through various media including smart phone. 'Cloud Computing' improves efficiency of global economy dramatically by supporting productivity of individuals and organizations.

Finally, I should say the side effect of cloud computing. Using 'Cloud Computing' means we should put large amount of our data and programs into the providers' environment, so called 'cloud'. If they want to abuse our data and program, it is very hard for us to prevent them from it. If their system malfunctions, our system does equally. Most of all, secrets or core technology of our country and companies can be leaked to the providers or foreign government. It is very important security issue.

To sum up, I've introduced the term 'Cloud computing', with its definition, types, significance and problems of 'Cloud Computing'. Overall, is very useful and meaningful but we have some security issue to consider carefully.

Thank you for listening to my presentation and I hope it can be useful to you.
