Lexine and the talking fish
Rain was never a bad thing in Fangelton and in 6 months and 21 days Lexine hadn't been caught by surprise of the coming rain. If the distant thunder didn't reach her ears first, then the soft smell of the changing wind before a coming storm would. This time however, the adolescent wolf was caught napping in her home when rain suddenly struck and her 6 month streak of dryness had come to an end.
"Blast!" she spat, through foggy eyes after rousing from the cold. The makeshift shelter Lexine called her home had served her well for the first few weeks after leaving home, but it wasn't properly equipped to completely keep out the rain. Lexine's parents had shown her how to build an incredibly strong hut to live in, in preparation for her leaving - though the wolf teen had laziness to blame and a fondness for putting off important tasks until it was ultimately too late. Lying on her back in her shelter, she had no one to blame but herself.
"Carth, what of all things provoked you to bring the rain today?" Lexine muttered under her breath. The hut was leaking and with nothing in sight to mend the hole Lexine resorted to contorting her body into a less comfortable posture in order to try and avoid the dripping water.
The crack of closeby thunder caught Lexine off guard and the smell of rain filled her nose. "Achoo!" Unlike the spirits of the lake, wolves were not immune to the common cold or other illnesses. At this moment Lexine was trying hard not to imagine what it was like to live free from ailments when lightning stuck close enough for Lexine to briefly see sparks and flames right before they were immediately extinguished by the pouring rain.
Storms had never bothered Lexine, quite the contrary she welcomed them as it meant her responsibilities back home would be put on hold. Back home... It was hard to not think of the life she lived right up until a few weeks ago. At the very moment, in this very same storm Lexine's younger brother would be at home warm and with a full belly. Mum and Dad would be there and her brother would most certainly not have what could be the onset of a cold.
